2019 Infiniti QX50: Driving Impressions

2019 Infiniti QX50: Driving Impressions

We've talked a lot about the 2019 Infiniti QX50 in recent months, and even in the last few years since it was unveiled a year ago. After finally arriving on the market, the new QX50 fulfills its promises. It offers plenty of upscale equipment, a unique engine that preserves performance while improving fuel economy, and a style that stands out in a segment where bland designs are the norm.

Driving the 2019 QX50 is an experience that you’ll learn to love a little more every day. It all starts with its VC-T, or Variable Compression Turbo engine. You guessed it, it’s a turbocharged engine with a twist.

A Perfectly Balanced Ride

The Infiniti VC-T engine is actually a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine that develops 268 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. If you're a connoisseur of motors, you’ll know it's pretty rare to get a 2.0-litre engine with that much power. But that’s not the only feature of the QX50.

The latter is also able to vary the compression ratio in the cylinder. The compression ratio plays a very important role in the performance of an engine, but also in its efficiency. A higher compression ratio ensures better fuel economy, while a lower rate provides better performance. The VC-T can raise the ratio from 8:1 to 14:1 depending on the driver’s needs and how we drive the 2019 QX50.

On the road, we do not notice any change from one ratio to another. However, we noted that we could reach 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds while on the highway. Even in the city, fuel consumption is generally under 10 litres per 100 kilometres. This is really impressive. Moreover, it is not uncommon to get an average consumption of nearly 8 litres per 100 kilometres.

For a compact luxury SUV, it's hard to ask for more!

In addition to its performance and efficiency, the QX50 also stands out in terms of comfort. The new Infiniti SUV offers a refined and comfortable drive that allows you to keep going for hours without ever getting tired. There is also plenty of space inside and the equipment list is complete.
